She caused quite a stir recently because she sued her former high school to court after being expelled for modeling swimwear. Maya Koizumi filed suit in December asking the Tokyo District Court to nullify the school’s decision so she can return to classes and graduate.

Maya was expelled from the the Toho Gakuen girls school in Chofu, western Tokyo, after the photo collection titled Geneki Joshikosei (High school girl student) hit stores last summer. In expelling her, the private school said publication of the photos had violated its regulations.

It’s too bad for her for such a young age expelling her from her institution.

Azumi Kawashima was born in Tokyo on August 8, 1979, and enjoys swimming and walking. She became a favorite among fans of the Japanese AV principally because her "classical elegant beauty", as her appearances are not as extreme or hardcore as many other such videos. Kawashima's debut video was Promise released under Sexia's Try Heart label in December 1998. She was back at Shy for the April 1999 release, Natural. This video was judged a well-acted drama with great sex scenes, involving gangsters and an assassination plot.

Kawashima's entry, the seventh in the series, was subtitled Dangerous Love Triangle and released in May of 1999. She played the role of a woman who is the victim of her wicked mother-in-law.
